Controls, storage and battery

Valve-backed iFixit guides cover sticks, triggers, buttons, fan, SSD, battery and screen. A worn stick has a targeted replacement; removing the glued battery or display takes much more work. If storage is the problem, a microSD card may avoid opening the console, while an SSD change requires data backup and operating-system recovery.

OLED parts are different

The OLED Deck changed its fan, battery, display and controls compared with the LCD model. The 1 TB OLED version has etched anti-glare glass, and iFixit lists its screen separately from the 512 GB panel. Use the exact OLED variant when checking parts; a generic “Steam Deck” listing can point to the wrong component.

Used-console condition

Test both sticks, buttons, triggers, charging, fan noise and the screen on a used Deck. A control that drifts may need calibration or a replacement stick; several faults after a drop can involve more than one assembly. Compare the relevant part and labour with Valve’s service offer before pricing a damaged unit.
